Project 7
Objectives:
1. I will take photos with flash of a person's face.
2. I will edit some of the photos in black and white.
2. I will edit some of the photos in black and white.
Research:
What I like about these photographs is how expressive they are. I like how candid the middle one is, and also how the one on the right was taken with flash. I also like how these photos are in black and white.
Raw Photos:
I took these photos late at night in the dark after my sister's dance recital. I took most of them using flash. For some of them, I tuned on a pink salt lamp in the room as the only light, which gave the pictures a red glow, as well as make the shutter speed slower.
Edits:
To edit these photos, I used black and white, noise, the paintbrush tool, gradients, and image adjustments. I had fun experimenting with a variety of the tools on Photoshop.
Final Print:
Critique:
OBSERVE + DESCRIBE:
This is a photograph of my sister. This photograph was taken using flash, and then edited in black and white. The black and white is high contrast. She is pushing up her eyebrow and looking straight into the camera.
ANALYZE:
In this photograph, there is a connection between the Element of Art 'Form' and the Principle of Design 'Movement.' This can be seen in the form of her face. Her hair is back, so that creates more of an even shape around her head. This makes the form of her head look more round, which creates movement because the eye follows the curves of her head down to her eyebrow and back. Another connection can be made between the Element of Art 'Value' and the Principle of Design 'Unity.' The photograph was edited in black and white, giving it multiple values and shades of black/gray. This creates a cohesive look to the photo because it is all monochromatic. The values are all in the same color range, which creates unity within the photograph.
INTERPRET:
The idea for this photograph was to take photos using flash. I also wanted to take photos of people having a distinctive or expressive look on their face. Another idea for this photo was to edit in black and white. I think that all of these ideas were accomplished.
EVALUATE:
Overall, I like how these photographs turned out. I think that I have found that sometimes my photos turn out better when they are not part of a planned photo shoot. I guess it just makes them look more candid. I had fun editing these photos and experimenting with gradients and adding noise. I think that I could have improved this project by taking photos that were even more candid, like when my sister wasn't expecting me to.
