Project 1
Objectives:
1. I will shoot photos with color and pattern.
2. I will use image adjustments in Photoshop to enhance the color in the photos.
2. I will use image adjustments in Photoshop to enhance the color in the photos.
Research:
I like that these photos all have very vibrant color schemes, as well as pattern. The colors go together and also work well with the patterns.
Raw Photos:
I took these photographs at a rug shop downtown, Durango. The shop had stacks of colorful rugs, all with different patterns. There were also other things in the store such as pillows and tapestries. In the front of the store, there was large windows and at the back of the store there was brick walls.
Edits:
I used mostly image adjustments to edit these photos. I did not edit them much, except I did edit one in black and white with a sepia tone overlayed. The edited photos also seem to lose quality when uploaded online, so I feel like they look a little blurry/fuzzy.
Final Print:
Critique:
OBSERVE + DESCRIBE:
This is a photograph of a person (my sister) laying down on a stack of rugs. She is facing the windows at the front of the store. There is a geometric printed rug hanging on the wall behind her.
ANALYZE:
In this photograph, there is a connection between the Element of Art 'Shape' and the Principle of Design 'Pattern.' This connection is apparent in the photograph in the rugs. The pattern on the rugs is made up of various shapes, including triangles, squares and mandalas. Another connection can be made between the Element of Art 'Value' and the Principle of Design 'Emphasis.' This can be seen in the photo where the light is hitting her hair. The lighter values in her hair as a result of the light from the windows is drawing emphasis to her face and the first left third of the photograph.
INTERPRET:
The idea for this photograph was to meet the objectives (shoot photos with color and pattern, and edit to enhance the color with image adjustments). The rugs in the photograph provide both color and pattern. I used image adjustments to enhance the colors so that they showed more true to what they looked like in real life. Also, for one of the edits, I edited it in black and white and added a sepia tone.
EVALUATE:
I think that this photograph turned out alright, especially since I wasn't initially planning to shoot in a rug store. I think that I accomplished my objectives. I like how the light is hitting her hair in the photograph and also how it highlights her whole body. I feel like this photograph could be improved with better editing. I didn't edit these photographs very much, so maybe there was something I could have done to make them look even better. I also don't like how the edited photos appear online (blurry/fuzzy).
