Project 3
Objectives:
1. I will take up close photos of a dog.
2. I will edit tone and contrast of the photos, especially to convey a certain mood within the photos.
2. I will edit tone and contrast of the photos, especially to convey a certain mood within the photos.
Research:
I like that these photos are edited in a way that reflects the mood of the scene. The first photo has a melancholy feel, and the second a young and bright feel, while the third has more of a fun and lighthearted feel.
Raw Photos:
I took these pictures of my dog (Niko) when he was sleeping on his blanket. I think that they could have had better clarity to them, but the lighting was good, which made the photos easier to work with.
Edits:
For these photos, I wanted them to have a cozy feel. I edited the tone and contrast on all of them, but on the one in the bottom left corner, I added some doodles to give the picture a lighter, more fun, mood.
Final Print:
Critique:
OBSERVE + DESCRIBE:
This is a photograph of my dog (Niko, a bull terrier) laying down on a blanket. The angle that the photo was taken was from below him, and his nose is in focus while the background is out of focus.
ANALYZE:
In this photograph, there is a connection between the Element of Art 'Value' and the Principle of Design 'Contrast.' This connection can be seen in the my dog's nose compared to the background. The background includes lighter values, while his nose has darker values that contrast the background. Another connection can be made between the Element of Art 'Shape' and the Principle of Design 'Emphasis.' The shape of my dog's nose is long and is closest to the camera. This creates emphasis on the nose because it is in focus. The nose also has darker values that separate it from the background, establishing distinct spaces, which causes emphasis.
INTERPRET:
The idea for this photograph was to meet the objectives, and to take photos with a mood/feel to them. I think that these photographs accomplished this because each photo has a different feel/tone to it.
EVALUATE:
I think that this project could have turned out better because some of the photos were more out of focus. I also think that when the photo printed, it had a more purple color to it, which it doesn't have online. I also printed the final photograph on matte paper, which I don't think helped the clarity of the photograph, but overall, I do like how this project turned out.
