Project 2
Objectives:
1. I will shoot landscape/nature photographs of Moab, Utah.
2. I will edit the photos to enhance the colors and natural rock formations.
2. I will edit the photos to enhance the colors and natural rock formations.
Research:
I like that these photos are each of class Moab formations, (such as the Mesa and Delicate arch) but they all have a different tone, or feeling to them.
Raw Photos:
I took these photos over spring break in Moab Utah. These photographs were taken in Canyonlands National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park, Arches National Park, and other various places in Moab. For Some of the photos, I went to Mesa Arch (in Canyonlands) at sunrise, where the Washerwoman formation can be viewed in a unique light.
Edits:
I didn't feel like I wanted to edit these photos very much, but I still made small changes to things such as brightness/contrast, and the colors so that they would closer resemble the colors in the rocks that the camera couldn't pick up as well.
Final Print:

OBSERVE + DESCRIBE:
This is a photograph of Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park. This photo was taken in Moab, Utah at sunrise. The early sunlight is coming through rock formations (Washerwoman Arch).
ANALYZE:
In this photograph, there is a connection between the Element of Art 'Color' and the Principle of Design 'Contrast.' This connection can be seen in the colors and shadows made by the morning light. As the sunlight filters through the rock formations, it created a light yellow color, as well as making the rock/arch in the foreground glow orange. These warm colors contrast against the dark greys and browns that can be seen in some parts of the rocks and the mountains behind them. Another connection can be made between the Element of Art 'Space' and the Principle of Design 'Emphasis.' This can be seen in how the arch frames the rock formations in the background, emphasising them and drawing a viewer's eye to them. The arch creates and empty space that gives the sunlight and rock formations a focal point.
INTERPRET:
The idea for this photograph was to meet the objectives (shoot photos in Moab, Utah, and edit to enhance the colors and values of the rock and land formations so they they accurately portray what they looked like in real life, in the moment that the photo was taken). I also wanted to take some landscape/nature photographs, since my previous project was of a person.
EVALUATE:
I think that this project turned out well. The natural beauty of the nature and rocks in Moab sort of speaks for itself. I was glad that I could capture such a beautiful place. I think that when the photo printed, the colors turned out darker then they looked on screen, which was slightly disappointing, but overall I had a lot fo fun with this project and I am pleased with the photographs I took.
